The primary objective of the District Industries Centre is to generate employment by way of promoting Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Cottage and Handicrafts Industries. At present, this District Industries Centre implements the various programmes/schemes formulated by Govt. of Tamilnadu and Govt. of India.

These programmes are implemented with an accent on development and modernisation of industries, upgradation of technology and quality control. The packages of services offered by the District Industries Centre are Multidimensional and need based so that industrial growth is facilitated. Geographical Features

For the administrative convenience South Arcot District was bifurcated into two Districts namely Cuddalore District and Viluppuram District.  The District with the Head Quarter at cuddalore has been named as Cuddalore Dist. The total geographical area of the District is 3678 sq.kms, with the coastal Quarter at Cuddlore has been named as Cuddalore District. 

The District is predominantly agricultural with the coastal line stretching  from Marakanam which is now in Viluppuram District in the North to the Mouth of River Coleroon in the South.  line of 68 kms.  The boundaries of the District are.

East      :           Bay of Bengal
West     :           Viluppuram
North   :           Union Territory of Pondicherry
South    :           Nagapattinam District.
